It’s (Nearly) Time to Clean Up!

How’s your week panning out? Are you on top of things, or are things getting on top of you?

Sometimes clutter has a way of getting on top of us, of weighing us down with its dead energy. It feels so *blah* to look at clutter in our physical environment, doesn’t it?

But when we declutter, we release that negative energy and let in fresh, clear, prosperous energy – and you KNOW how good it feels when you accomplish a really good declutter!

So, if you need to declutter your physical environment, get excited.

Very soon, I’ll be releasing a home-study version of a course called The Living Rich Declutter program. In that program, I take the ‘overwhelm’ out of decluttering, and show you how to declutter for prosperity.

If you’d like to be one of the first to know about this sensational course, simply leave your details here:

www.livingrichdeclutter.com

I’ll let you have access to this course before its official release!

Have a fabulous rest of week, won’t you? (Keep smiling, and be kind to everyone, including yourself!)

It Really Does Pay to Make a Decision

Have you ever had trouble making a decision?

Yeah, me too.

Those of us with perfectionist tendencies often experience pain when faced with a decision that needs to made.

The thing that paralyses us is ‘what if I make the WRONG decision’?

So we hem and haw and go back and forth. We meditate, ruminate and vacillate.

We put ourselves through pain, and when we finally force ourselves to make a decision, we worry about it, and sometimes backtrack and undo the decision.

Living with indecision means that we live in a constant state of uncertainty.

And, really, that’s just not pleasant, is it?

Well, what if there was no such thing as a wrong decision?

What if every decision you took was ‘right’, for where you are right now? Even if ‘the worst’ happened, and everything blew up, backfired and bit you on the bum?

I’m here to tell you that you’d still be OK. You’d get through it. And you’d come out the other side with some valuable information, a life lesson that would help guide you further along your path.

The universe loves clarity. It responds well to clarity. It follows strong, bold, powerful energy, and when you make a firm decision, the universe responds and starts drawing to you what you need.

It’s also important to remember that if you get too emotional when making a decision, and you create a lot of angst, the law of attraction works to bring you more of the same.

A good approach to making a decision is to be thoroughly proactive, to be in your power. To be strong, and bold, but smart.

Step 1
Gather information and really think about the pros and cons of each decision you could make (but don’t agonise).

Step 2
Give yourself a little ‘chewing time’, if you need it, but don’t let that process drag on.

Step 3
Hold your hand on your heart and ask for a ‘yes’ or ‘no’, paying attention to what your stomach feels like. Intuition often reveals itself as a ‘gut instinct’.

This ‘head + heart’ process works for me. Would you like to try it? Be warned that your subconscious will try to hold you back, to keep you safe (that’s it’s job, so thank it for trying to look after you!), but if decision-making is a problem for you, then you need to start being very bold, to start overriding your subconscious programming, and to start thinking of yourself as a good decision-maker.

Once you’ve made a decision, stick with it, unless evidence overwhelmingly shows you that you should make another decision – but give it time. Sometimes you just need to ‘take a deep breath and jump’, to make a decision, to see how it plays out.

But don’t ever think of your original decision as being ‘wrong’. It was just a stepping stone to get you where you needed to go, to give you feedback.

You know, I often find that people who have trouble making decisions also have trouble with clutter. This makes sense, when you think about it, because you have to make decisions about what to keep, and where to keep it. If you don’t make decisions with your ‘stuff’, then everything builds up, overwhelm kicks in, and nothing gets dealt with. You see the piles of clutter lying around and you feel worse, and your home starts to gather negative, stagnant energy around that clutter.

So, I’d like to invite you to be part of a very special program I’m running this month. It’s all about decluttering, so you’ll be getting to practice your new decision-making skills and get rid of your clutter at the same time!

If this highly supportive program ‘speaks’ to you, then I’d encourage you to make a decision about whether to join us.

Wishing you clarity and decisiveness, and all ‘the good stuff’ that is naturally attracted to you when you live this way.

Is Your Clutter Weighing You Down?

If you feel as though you’re drowning in your clutter, then I’m here to help! (Imagine me flying into your house in a Superwoman costume!)

I want you to help you ‘clean up your act’, and release stagnant energy that’s been holding you back. There’s a very good reason for this – having stagnant energy in your home doesn’t make it easy for prosperous energy to make its way into your life.

And I want the very best for you. I want you to experience what it’s like to live in a calm, great-vibration home, with opportunities for prosperity flooding into your life.

If this sounds intriguing, head here:

www.livingrichdeclutter.com

I know how painful it can be to hold onto ‘stuff’, and I want to help you make great headway through your clutter. I’ve spent the last few weeks creating a delicious group-coaching program that is going to help you do just that, and show you how to clean up your ‘stuff’ around money, too!

Come have a look at what I’ve created for you:

www.livingrichdeclutter.com

I can’t wait to help you with clearing your home, and I can’t wait to hear YOUR success story! (See my decluttering-prosperity story over here: www.livingrichdeclutter.com.)

Maybe this is your time to shine?

Tips to Move You

Last month, I promised to pass on some tips I’ve gathered from my recent house move.

Never let it be said that I don’t fulfil my promises!

I believe that moving house offers us a beautiful opportunity to declutter and bring some fresh energy into our lives – in short, to improve our vibration, which, in turn, helps us feel great and naturally attract great experiences.

Moving makes you come face to face with the ‘hidden’ in your life, which can be painful, but it’s so cleansing and liberating!

My top tips:

  • As soon as you know you are definitely moving, start sorting, culling and packing. The earlier you start, the better, especially if you’re a hoarder. Put packed boxes into a corner of the room nearest your front door.
  • If your move date is a long way off, start sorting and culling anyway, even if you don’t start packing. Make the most of being able to space out the throwing out of rubbish each week, without needing to make trips to the tip!
  • Create a master (what’s the female equivalent of that? Mistress? Gaa!) organisation list, so that you know in what order you want to pack certain rooms (start with packing the least-used cupboards, the attic and the garage).
  • Create a master list in Excel of all people, companies and organisations who will need to be notified of your change of street address, telephone number and email address (this list is handy for subsequent house moves, too).
  • Take the opportunity to get rid of a LOT of stuff (if you’ve forgotten you had it, it can probably go, unless it’s a family memory thing) – either give it away to friends/family/charity, or sell it on EBay etc.
  • If you have a lot of larger items that you’d like to ‘get rid of’, consider holding a garage sale a few weeks before your move. It’s also a great idea to combine forces with neighbours, to make it a bumper event. Do a leaflet drop, make signs, make homemade lemonade to sell (which my girls did, at ours!) etc.
  • Give potted plants a hard pruning a couple of days before the move, and don’t water them for a few days before the move (not watering makes it lighter for the removalists to lift them, and the removalists are less likely to be pricked by the plants if they’re pruned).
  • Nurture yourself throughout this process of moving. Yes, it can be a grind, but it doesn’t have to grind you down. Keep it light, and give yourself MORE than enough time to do everything.
  • For move day itself, have healthy snacks on hand (easy to eat fruit, nuts etc), and eat out at healthy restaurants (or you might be lucky enough to be invited to eat at the home of a nearby friend or family member).
  • Have a box of ‘essentials’ that you keep with you on move day, containing things such as: a folder with all the documents you’ll need; your address book, including phone numbers of new utility providers; tissues; a bag for rubbish; loo paper if necessary (not all previous homeowners leave any in the new house!); healthy snacks (see above); bottled water; mobile/cell phone; equipment chargers; keys to new house.
  • Keep a luggage bag aside with PJs, a towel, clothes and toiletries that you’ll need for a day and a night.

I’d also recommend having a feng shui analysis of your new home as soon as possible. However, before buying (or renting) a new home, consider having a feng shui analysis carried out for your current home, so that you find out your most auspicious directions etc. This helps when you go to look at new home – I have also found Vicky White’s guide to buying a home very, very handy. Check it out here. It also talks about how to make your home more appealing to buyers, if you’re selling.

Yes, moving house is one of those top 10 stressors of life. But, if you view it positively, you’ll see just what an amazing opportunity it is. I learned a lot from my most recent house move, and I’ll definitely be using my own guidelines for the next move, which will be within a year or so.

Do you have any house-moving tips? Feel free to share them with us, below!

When Good Energy Gets to Circulate…

…amazing things happen.

We’re moving house this month, and I’m relishing the chance to pull everything out of the cupboards and pack it all up.

‘Why?’, you may ask? Well, I’m excited to see what amazing things happen once we’ve done so!

When we moved house when my girls were babies, I entered a competition on the final weekend of our packing – we were to move house on the Monday. The competition was hosted by the Sunrise morning show in Australia – they wanted people to send in their best money-saving story.

I wrote a pithy (OK, hilarous) entry about when Darren and I had decided to save money. The story was: instead of going out to a cafe for afternoon tea, we bought some cheap jam doughnuts (Darren’s idea – they are revolting) at the supermarket and made up a flask of tea. We then drove to a park (Studley Park, for those of you who are Melbournites), feeling virtuous at how much money we were saving. We sat down at a park bench, and after we started eating and drinking, it started to rain. Just a little. ‘That’s fine,’ we said. We just put up the hoods on our jackets.

But then it started to hail. Sure, it was only delicate hail, but it was hail nonetheless. Everyone else was running for cover, but we decided to sit there, in the hail, laughing hysterically. We put out our cups of tea to catch pieces of hail, to cool the tea down. All very civilised, you see.

So, anyway (long story, short), I emailed in our story and – won. Yep. I was changing Bella’s nappy on the Monday morning, and Darren was feeding Evie (he’d taken the day off work for the house move). He suddenly yelled out, ‘Jo! You’ve won!’ I nearly dropped Bella (sorry, Bell), then carefully lay her down on the rug and did a huge, whooping happy dance. My name and suburb flashed across the TV screen, and one of the hosts, Koshie, looked quizzical, wondering why we would have sat out in a hailstorm (Koshie, this was only Melbourne-sized hail, not Sydney golf-ball hail – however, we did have some whoppers in a storm last year…).

What had we won? Oh, only FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!

Even though I had been a big believer in feng shui for a few years before, this cemented my beliefs. I just know that it was our ‘moving house’ – the clearing out of old, stagnant energy in our home – that helped bring in and circulate good energy.

The pic above is a copy of the cheque that I received. Darren felt that we should start a ‘competitions won’ folder, and we have gone on to win a few things over the years.

So, I’m keen to see what amazing opportuntities come our way with this next move. We’ve been here 5½ years, so I sense that there will be some major energy shifting going on, despite my recent decluttering.

Do you have any amazing good-energy stories? I hope I’ve inspired you to start ’clearing out the old’ in your home – or perhaps you could even move house?!

Decluttering Queen

That beautiful, sultry, dreamlike lull between Christmas and New Year saw me working like a Trojan. Throughout the year, I’d let paperwork build up, and quite a few ‘admin’-type jobs fall by the wayside. You what I’m talking about, right?

Also, just before Christmas, we decided that we would like to move house (in January). To another town. So, those jobs simply needed to be done. And, boy oh boy, did I feel good after I completed them! Piles of files were sorted and put away. Packages were mailed. Clothes were assessed for their wearability (many items were discarded or given to charity). It was a beautiful thing.

The best part is that I let myself enjoy the experience, even though I’d been dreading the ‘chore’. I love looking through papers and discovering interesting things that I’d forgotten about. Unfortunately, that can slow me down a little, but because I had time to spare, I let myself savour the experience. I put on groovy music, poured myself a glass of something scrumptious, and puttered to my heart’s content. It was so satisyfing to cull papers and unused items. Am I the only one to get a perverse thrill out of this sort of thing?

I also made sure that my washing baskets were completely empty on New Year’s Eve, so that the New Year could be seen in without holding onto dirty washing from the past. You know, all those knits and delicates that need hand-washing (note to self: perhaps don’t buy those items anymore)? The idea for this New Year cleansing ritual came from the lovely Alison May over at Brocante Home – I read about this on Alison’s blog year before last, and resolved to make it one of my rituals, too.

I told a dear Sri Lankan friend of mine about this ritual and she has also resolved to take it on as her own. She then told me about a traditional Sri Lankan New Year’s ritual of having an unopened packet of salt, and an unopened packet of rice in the house at the start of every New Year, for good luck. I like that! So I duly went out and purchased those items.

It’s so lovely to have rituals that help us greet a fresh new year. Do you have a special New Year’s ritual? I’d love for you to share it with us!

Diary Time

I love this time of year. Yeah, yeah, I adore Christmas and all, but I also love the freshness of a new year. Oh, and I also love stationery.

These passions combine when it comes to transferring data from one year’s diary to the next. In 2009, I used this luscious pink diary (see photo). In 2010, I’ll be using this sublime lilac diary. In previous years my diaries have been smaller, and full of sumptuous photography or illustrations, but more recently I’ve been liking more business-like diary interiors (but pretty exteriors), with lots of room for planning my days.

I like to make a ritual of transferring information – mostly recording dates of birthdays and special events – by sitting down calmly with a clear desk and a hot cuppa, with pen and highlighters at the ready. It makes me feel very organised, and gives me a real sense of anticipation for the year ahead. Oh, and the universe also looks very favourably on orderliness!

I know I could be using my computer’s diary, but I really love using paper diaries. Do you?

Here’s to a spectacular 2011!
